We do not actually hope, and we don't realistically anticipate, that
the North Shore is going to be the next Williamsburg*, though many folks says so. We're still
divided by Water and a pretty unattractive ferry schedule. Plus, DOT and City employees are doing their best by yelling at tourists and
visitors: "Yoho, where you going? Get back on the boat, there's
nothing here!" (These were the actual words and sadly, they are not
all false)
However, thanks to the complete absence of any
cultural life and social meeting points our beloved north shore could
develop in a very unique manner, unspoiled by outside factors from the
big city, of which it technically is part of.
So we're taking
over the roll of the exploring scientist who looks through his magnifying
glasses at a still untouched urban ecosystem. There is pristine beauty and
ugliness to be discovered. Our logbooks are filled with song verses
and the test results are published through choruses on MP3 and wav files.
MOST
instruments that we play have been purchased in local thrift stores or simply been picked up from a north shore street corner. We record at home with low- and some higher end digital
and analog equipment.
Not all 4 Volumes are available yet. But we already play about 11 of the North Shore songs live!
*for those that are not familiar with New York's boroughs and neighborhoods: Williamsburg is a neighborhood in Brooklyn where many artist and trend setting young people have moved since the early nineties. Streets became safe, rents got up and artists got fucked, ... same ol' story.
